About Us

“I must be the change I wish to see in the World”

Mahatma Gandhi

Butler’s Distributing is excited to have the privilege of introducing ECO COMPOSTABLE PRODUCTS into Kelowna and serving the Okanagan.
We supply bio-degradable and compostable hot cups, cold cups, take out containers such as: plates, bowls, cutlery, soup containers, deli containers, trash bags, java jackets, straws and many other compostable products.

All of our products are supplied to us by a reputable eco friendly suppliers with BPI certification. BPI stands for Biodegradable Products Institute and is the primary governing body in the for Compostability Certification.

These products are 100% COMPOSTABLE. They are made from CORN by-products and/or SUGARCANE products.
Both the CORN and the SUGARCANE are annual renewable resources. No petroleum is used. In this way we reduce our dependency on the ever diminishing oil resource. The corn (plastic-PLA) products turn back into dirt in as little as 45 days in a commercial composting facility. The sugarcane is an annual renewable resource and takes the place of paper products (that requires a tree to grow 30 years before maturity).

The sugarcane products will also turn back into dirt in as little as 45 days in a commercial composting facility.

Vision

Our Vision is to see all restaurants, food outlets, public facilities in the Okanagan and West Kootenays using non toxic food take out containers and to increase public awareness of the importance of organic, raw, living food and fair trade products.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to increase awareness of what we and others can do to reduce our footprint on this planet by introducing products that are sustainable; by educating the public about healthy organically grown, fair trade products and by offering classes that teach others how to eat more nutritiously.

About Neil Butler

Neil was born and raised in Jasper National Park.  He grew up with a mind set of “take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints”. His love for nature and the beauty of our country has followed him throughout his life.  In his working life and family life he has attempted to display the vital bond between ourselves and the land. The importance of living in his Truth is reflected in the products he sells that he believes to be ecologically and economically sustainable.

About Sandra Butler

Sandra has been blessed with a varied and joyous life.   In 1994, Sandra followed a dream when she and husband Neil purchased, co-owned and operated a horticultural business in Armstrong, B.C.  Here she was able to use her teaching skills to offer classes in horticulture at Okanagan College, Armstrong division.  During this time she expressed her love of writing and gardening by doing a weekly gardening column for the local newspaper.

In 2000, Sandra and Neil and their cat, Mariah ventured to Big White Ski Resort to manage a condo complex.  They enjoyed the amenities that went with living on a ski hill year round.  During this time she also assisted Neil in building a distribution business, introducing Kicking Horse Coffee to the Interior of B.C.  During these seven years, Sandra became more and more aware of environmental issues and she and Neil began looking for ways to set an example for others to make less of an impact on the environment by going “green” personally in as many ways as they could.

One thing that really concerned Sandra was the Styrofoam that was being used for “take out” in restaurants.  Three years ago, Neil and Sandra moved to Kelowna and began operating Butler’s Distributing on a full time basis.  They added Eco friendly products to their distributorship as well as a different line of organic, fair trade coffee called Milano Coffee.  They also added fair trade chocolate bars and food dehydrators to their distribution list.

Being conscious and aware of staying healthy and eating healthy foods went hand in hand with Sandra’s concern for the environment.  She became more and more aware of how being more of a locavor can have a positive impact on our environment. During this time she also discovered raw foodism.  Within the past year Sandra has completed her raw food chef’s certification and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and continued good health with others by teaching raw food classes. She finds that the career of teaching she desired so many years ago has come full circle and is really a career in learning and sharing and growing small steps to save the planet.
